What:

The theme of this year’s Symposium is “Coming of Age.”  Coming of Age is a person’s transition from childhood to adulthood. The age and nature of this transition vary among different societies and cultures.

Symposium participants will be welcomed by Dr. Sukant Misra, Vice Provost for International Affairs at Texas Tech University, Ms. Tabitha Schmidt, Interim Executive Director of the Museum of TTU, Mr. Joe Scarborough, President of The Center for Global Understanding, and Ms. Kyungah Nam, President of Sowoon Arts and Heritage.

Dr. James Brink, Associate Professor at Honors College, TTU, will introduce the Theme of this Symposium and scholars and performers. 

Rev. Malcolm Neyland, Associate Chaplain of UMC Pastoral Care Department, will discuss Native American/ Hispanic/ South American Coming of Age, Dr. Amma Akrofi, Associate Professor of Language and Literacy in the TTU College of Education, will discuss Ghanian/African Coming of Age, and Rabbi Hillel Katzir, former Rabbi of the Temple Shalom Synagogue in Auburn, Maine, will discuss Jewish Coming of Age.

Dr. Jae Hee Park, President of The National Culture Contents Research Center and  philosopher, and Ms. Eun A Kim, Korean Tea Master, will lead the Korean Coming of age Ceremony with 10 Texas Tech University students.
