Dr. Myungwon Yoon
Dr. Myungwon Yoon is a composer, conductor, and professor of the Department of Korean Traditional Music at Dankook University, Seoul, South Korea. His dedicated study of Korean traditional culture started early at Gugak National Middle School and at Gugak National High School. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in Korean Traditional Music Composition at Seoul National University and his Ph.D. in Ethnology at Korea University. Dr. Yoon has been active in promoting and advocating Korean traditional culture through research, music education, and artistic activities. He believes in conserving traditional culture, and, in addition, he promotes its sustainability and creativity as living culture. Dr. Yoon serves as President of Sinakhoi (신악회), the Society for New Korean Music. His involvement in the revival efforts of Changgeuk (창극), a traditional Korean Opera, the public school curriculum development for Korean traditional music education, and the international cultural exchange all demonstrate his dedication to Korean cultural heritage conservation.
